BAM Affiliation Welcome Msomi was a South African playwright, actor, and writer best known for the play uMabatha, which was an adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth into Zulu culture. In 1979, Welcome Msomi established the Izulu Dance Theatre in the United States based on the belief in the fundamental universality of African people. There were five BAM appearances during the early years of DanceAfrica. Izulu Dance Theatre eventually expanded to include a children's company, an actors' studio and workshop.
