BAM Affiliation Booker T. Washington was an educator, author, orator, and civil rights leader, who was seen as a representative to the last generation of blacks born into slavery in the United States. He spoke at BAM at least four times, most notably giving an address reflecting on the 46th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, on New Years Day, 1909.
