Burton Holmes

BAM Affiliation Credited with coining the term "travelogue," Burton Holmes (1870-1958) was one of the most famous travel lecturers of his day. Known for dazzling American audiences with narratives of exotic locales illustrated via new technologies, Holmes was one of the first to use film in his lectures (a practice he began in 1897). He appeared at BAM as early as 1912, and returned regularly until his death -- making Holmes one of BAM's most frequent performers.
