BAM Affiliation Propeller describes itself as "an all-male Shakespeare company which seeks to find a more engaging way of expressing Shakespeare and to more completely explore the relationship between text and performance." For Edward Hall, founder and artistic director of Propeller, performing the plays with all-male casts, as they were done in Shakespeare's own company, not only revives a long-abandoned tradition but enables both actors and audience to envision the plays in new ways. A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Hall, introduced BAM audiences to the ensemble in 2004. Since then, Propeller has appeared at BAM six times, with productions including The Winter's Tale, The Comedy of Errors, and The Taming of the Shrew, which won an OBIE in 2007.
