Choreographer David Dorfman, a Chicago native, started David Dorfman Dance in 1985. His highly personal modern style is derived from his own way of moving, and often emphasizes intensive communication and interaction between his dancers. Dorfman bases works on issues of social, political, or emotional import. The company has performed extensively in the Americas, UK, and Europe. David Dorfman Dance has won eight Bessie Awards, among numerous other accolades, and since 2007 has been in residence at Connecticut College, where Dorfman is a professor. The New York-based company was previously at BAM with To Lie Tenderly (2000 Next Wave), underground (2006 Next Wave), Come, and Back Again (2013), and toured Turkey, Tajikistan, and Armenia as part of the BAM-produced, US State Department cultural exchange program, DanceMotion USAsm (2014). Dorfman has also choreographed for Broadway and television.
