Alternate Title Zoroastre: 1756 Version
Production Language French
Country of Origin France
Description The last of Rameau’s operas to be staged in his lifetime, Zoroastre did not achieve the same level of success (or infamy) that Rameau’s previous operas attained. One plausible reason is that Zoroastre abandoned operatic convention by focusing on a narrative drawn from Persian religion instead of Greek or Roman mythology, a move which was jarring to 18th century Parisian audiences. With William Christie conducting, Zoroastre was Les Arts Florissants fourth Rameau production to appear at BAM.
