Description Sardono Kusumo is Indonesia's foremost choreographer and one of the most virtuosic dancers of our day. He brings a modern sensibility to the timeless dance forms of Indonesia. In this, his company's U.S. debut, Kusumo presents a sweeping, contemporary look at the mystical and pragmatic world view reflected in the royal arts of Java's Solonese court. A chamber-sized gamelan music ensemble provides both setting and accompaniment, performing the resonant tones of a metallophone and gong score by one of Indonesia's leading new music composers. Members of the royal Solonese court perform.
