Description Co-presented with The Simon H. Rifkind Center for the Humanities, CCNY. Shakespeare played with history in composing many of his works, including Hamlet, Cymbeline and Henry VIII. What happens when past and present realities contend for their place on the stage or in a reader's imagination? How do questions of historical authenticity shape our access to Shakespeare? Theater directors and scholars share their views in dialogue with the audience. Participants include Alison Carey, Cornerstone Theater Company; Michael Kahn, Shakespeare Theater; Peggy O'Brien, Corporation for Public Broadcasting; and Steven Urkowitz, CCNY and Graduate Center/CUNY.
